    Troopons – Coupons for Troops

Keep clipping out coupons (active or expired) from newspapers, magazines, circulars, or get them from dispensers in grocery store, and elsewhere as long as they state “Manufacturer’s Coupon”. Place the coupons in the box on top of the white organizers outside the library next to the water fountain. Let’s all pitch in to help our military families make their American dollar worth more to them for things off-base!

    Penny Power - Cents

The pennies collection continues for all of 2013. And remember it is not just a WINGS or ‘ladies’ project. The basket for the penny collection is in the library on the shelf to your left. Leave pennies or any change there and it will be picked up each Sunday. All money collected this year will be given to the Children’s Homes of Iredell County.

We collect from everyone—not just WINGS!

    Other Collectibles for Recycling

We are still collecting old Christmas cards for recycling and Guideposts or other devotional books that will be given to “My Sister’s House”. Put items in the white organizers outside the library next to the water fountain.

    Teddy Bear Ministry

St. John’s WINGS started a “Teddy Bear Ministry” to bring comfort to people in need. The bears are crocheted or knitted. We now have 3 bears available. They are on the front pew in the Nave where they have been sitting among us in worship. If you know of someone who needs comforting, please take them a bear. There is a folder on the pew where you can list those who receive a bear. Hopefully soon, they will be joined by more of their “cousin” bears.

    Iredell Christian Ministries

The April collection was another good one. We collected 103.4 pounds for ICM. Sunday, May 12 will be the next collection. Please bring: canned vegetables, salt, pepper and condiments such as ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise. If you would like to volunteer at ICM, contact Sandi Rabe at 704-838-1449.

Pop Tab Collection

For many of years, WINGS has been collecting pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House Charity.
When a child is in need of serious medical treatment, the Ronald McDonald House Charity provides a place to stay for the families while they are away from home. Although the actual cost to house a family for one night is $89, families are invited to make only a small financial donation, if possible. However, no family is turned away even if they cannot afford to contribute anything at all.

The Ronald McDonald House takes the collected tabs to the local recycling center and exchanges them for money which is used for the guest family fund.

The House that WINGS supports is in Charlotte, the closest one to us. Mary Bandy, Gail Pope’s daughter, is a volunteer there and transports our tabs to them each month.

This is an easy way to reach out and serve others. You can put your pop tabs in Ziploc bags and leave them on top of the white organizers outside the library. It takes 1000 tabs to equal a pound. A sandwich size Ziploc will hold ½ pound. You can save tabs from soda cans, soup cans, juice cans, dog/cat food cans as long as they are aluminum only!
